Sunset and Gleinkersee Austria

General

When I was up at the Wuerzeralm skifield, I was out for a walk and witnessed an amazing view as the sun set under the clouds, and a beam of light suddenly lit up the mountain. I had my camera handy, so quickly got a few photos of it.

We also went for a walk around the Gleinkersee & got some great views there.

This photo is with one of my Children, Tommy.

And this is the boat house there.

Austria

General

In the 31st october / 1st November we went to Austria. As it is alleheiligen here where everyone goes to the cemetary to remember passed friends & family, I decided late in the evening would be a great time to visit the cemetary as it is traditional to light candles on the graves.

It was pretty cold, but I headed off with Camera and tripod & got some pretty nice photos.

At one stage I gave myself a huge fright when I took a photo, and looked on my camera LCD. I saw shapes in the image that where not there in real life.

It took me a moment to realize that my breath had been caught by the flash.

Here is the image.

We also drove up to the ski field, and I thoroughly enjoyed the 4WD on my car. I decided to take a couple of photos of it in the snow with the autumn colours in the background.

I went back to the BMW Welt in the evening to get some night shots.

I love the blue lighting they use on it.

Was happy with the photos. Here are a couple of my favourites.

BMW Welt

General

My sister Chris unexpectedly came to visit. It was great catching up with her for a few days, and on Saturday before sa flew off to UK we visited the new BMW Welt complex. As we where a bit worried of crowds, we made the effort to get there at 10:00 when it opened. Turned out there weren’t as many people as we expected. The architecture of the place is very cool.

The boys, Tommy & Christopher went into a children’s area where they learnt about cars and how they work etc. Meanwhile Chris and I could take our time exploring the centre.

As the Children where occupied for 3 hours we had a bit of time to enjoy a very tasty lunch in the restaurant. The other guests where mostly in suits and all dressed up, but Chris and I didn’t let that put us off.

Lunch Break Forest Walk

General

Today was a beautiful Golden October Autumn day. So rather than sit in the office all day I took a long lunch break & went for a walk through a forest to a lake (Steinsee).
At this time of year are loads of mushrooms & toadstools which I find fascinating… So I took a few pictures.

I used my new ND Graad filter for this photo to help get a nicer sky.

Andechs & Autumn

General

Another perfect Autumn day today, so we decided to go for a walk through the forest up to the monastry Andechs.

Andechs has excellent beer & food so is a good incentive to get there.

Tommy & Christopher also enjoyed the walk in the forest. The autumn colours are great at the moment.

Had to take my brother in laws BMW Z1 out for a spin as the battery needed a charge & he is on holiday. It’s a fun car to drive.

Here are a couple from today.

New Car + Crash!

General

Here’s my Saga about my new car.
On the 16th March I ordered a new company car. I went for a new Skoda Octavia model called the Scout. A little like the Audi Allroad with 4×4 & in my opinion a few nice trimming changes.
Since then the delivery date has been postponed about 10 times. My original quote was for between 8 and 10 weeks.
Eventually on Thursday it was finally delivered after about 27 weeks!!
So I get in my new car and before hitting the Autobahn I stopped and took a few pictures. Then I got on the autobahn to head home with my new baby..
After about 20 Km a car nest to me suddenly swerves over to my lane to avoid a car that came into his land & even though I slammed the brakes on and swerved to avoid him, we just touched.
He did a few minor scratches to the paint and plastic bits.

So on Friday I had to give my new car up for repair.

Ok, here’s a couple of pictures I got of my new car in the few hours that I had it.
The normal summer tyres are 17 inch wheels. Unfortunately the winter tyres are smaller.

Test Live-view on my new camera

General

Perfect weather, so today at lunch time I went out with my new baby (40D) and tested the Live-View for taking macros of mushrooms.

It is perfect for getting those low down shots where you normally have to grovel on the ground to see through the viewfinder.

New Camera

General

I have not been too happy with the quality of my photos particularly at wide angle over the last few weeks (Maybe longer).  After much research I decided I would buy a new Professional lens for my studio work and that would blow everyone away with its clarity & sharp images. I went into town armed with camera, old lens, computer etc to test this wonderful & expensive 24-70 F2.8L.

First I did some recerence shots with my old lens, then I put on this new wonder baby & did the same photos.

Uploaded everything to my computer & checked the images out. I was amazed and disapointed to find… The images from the new lens where just as shitty as those from my 17-85!!

Oh man.. Must be a bad copy of the new lens. So I tried the 24-105 F4L…. Same result.

Next test… New Camera! And Waddayano..  The images where sharper. So guess what. I bought the 40D instead! It’s a beautiful camera. Fits in my hand much better than the 350D did. Now to learn how to use it! Early Happy Birthday to ME!
